I started my I.T. career almost 44 years ago by getting my first I.T. job as a part time Computer Operator at North Orange County Community College District in 1981. One year later in 1982, I became full time Computer Operator. Back then, North Orange County Community College District operated a Unisys 1100/62 Mainframe system, pictured below left. The other picture on the right is of disk drives that are similar to what I used to work with. Note – These disk drives were literally the size of a small washing machine!
A few years later I became a Lead Computer Operator, and I took some programming classes at Fullerton and Cypress College, which resulted in me earning a Certificate in Business Data Processing. Eventually I was promoted and became a Programmer/Analyst programming in COBOL (don’t laugh please!) and worked my way up to a Project Leader position. I left North Orange County Community Colleges in 1997 to start a web design company called Infinite Solutions. Unfortunately, we had to close our doors in 1998.
